Below is a working framework that helps turn analytical findings into product changes, not just pretty charts.
Why Just 'Looking at the Data' Doesn't Work
- You see correlations but don't understand the causes.
- Resources are spent on creating charts instead of making decisions.
- Teams argue about numbers instead of moving the product forward.
- Time is spent on processing, and hypotheses never emerge.
To avoid chaos, a simple and repeatable workflow is needed.
Step 1. A Clear Question (Not 'Improve the Metric,' but 'What's Hindering Growth')
Bad question: "How to increase retention?"
Good question: "Why is the retention of cohorts from channel X 20% lower after day 3?"
Question quality check:
- [ ] Is the question narrow?
- [ ] Is there a specific segment?
- [ ] Is it clear what data is needed?
- [ ] Can the question be tested in an experiment?
Step 2. Data Collection (Only What's Needed)
Choose a minimal set of events and fields:

Check:

Step 4. Validation: Make Sure the Anomaly is Real
Check the simple things:
- Is a spike a logging error?
